New Year's Day

New Year's Day dawned bright and sunny and we did not notice any particular change with the arrival of a new year. Today the plan is to do very little, starting of with some of the LLW's gourmet scrambled eggs, with can now be rustled up within minutes, due to the availability of a microwave in the van.

We drove into town, which was considerably quieter that of late, and cycled round admiring the planting and the outlook from Russell. It has been quite a contrast from when we were here two years ago, when just before Christmas it was remarkably quiet, to this year when it is busy, every possible accommodation is fully booked and parking spaces are at a premium.

The cycling was leisurely and of course the LLW insisted on a pause for flat whites. We were going swimming again at Long Beach and Ray decided to cycle over the hill from Russell and on this occasion, it proved to be no obstacle.

Apologies for the small number of photos at present, the reason for this being the very poor broadband at our camp site.  I'm struggling to upload even a few to the blog and the LLW, has resorted to working off line.

Now, in the Monday 30th post, I promised you more information about the LLW and her rediscovered ability to work offline. The Wedlake Bell system requires remote users to be constantly online to the document management system, which is fine and dandy, until there is a connection issue, either slow speed or the connection dropping regularly. When this happens the system locks users out and in the worst case documents can be lost. Usually all that is necessary is to log in again, but if this occurs every few minutes then it can become unworkable. For some time, Ray has suggested reverting to working off line on the documents and uploading them when needed. This advice had not been heeded until recently when the LLW found that the system does allow this, and it works well!! Since this major discovery, all has been sweetness and light, and the crockery in the camper van is safe from being thrown for the immediate future.

I will save this post now and see if I can upload some photos later; bye for now!
