NZ camping sites and holiday parks are clearly heaven on earth for young children. They are well organised with plenty to keep the children busy and places for parents to relax but still keep an eye on them. However, a number of camp sites rent bicycles and or tricycles and the kids hurtle around the camp sites in a kamikaze manner. Plenty of close shaves and one young girl did manage to crash into the back of our campervan (which was of course stationary) Plenty of tears but nothing hurt but perhaps her pride although she did look rather accusingly at our total innocent van!
The campsite which we have just left at Coromandel town had a 100% solution to this problem - it is called a bouncing pillow. This very large pillow was inflated about 08:00 and deflated at ~ 20:00 during which hours it was in constant use by multitudes of children. They simply had no energy left to terrorise other campers on their bikes!
