The LLW continued where she left off after the champagne in the lounge at Gatwick, swiftly following up with another on the Emirates Airbus 380-800. I am concerned she is developing a taste for Veuve Cliquot!
This is the second time we have travelled on a 380 and not only is it enormous but it is also a lovely plane to fly in and and seems to glide along with very little effort.
The service on board was very good, so was the entertainment system and with flat beds we managed to get some sleep.
However, just before the mammoth jet started its descent into Dubai International, Ray decided to create an international incident by losing his iPhone down the side of the seat. These are no ordinary seats but adjust every which way and a helpful stewardess quickly informed us that this would have to be left until after landing.
Once all other passengers had disembarked the search for the iPhone was resumed but in spite of the attention of at least 6 stewards there was no success. Engineers were called and 3 turned up and stared at the seat mumbling about complex new tangles seats in numerous languages. Eventually the front was prised off the seat and said iPhone was retrieved.
We beat a hasty retreat from the plane thanking all profusely, collected our luggage and were soon speeding off to our hotel in the arranged transport.
The hotel has no fewer than 16 restaurants, bars and lounges! We were greeted with tea and croissants and soon all was right with the world again. WhatsApp failed us as a result of the awful WiFi on Robin & Tara's cruise ship but trusty texts were exchanged and they were quickly on their way in a taxi to meet us at the hotel.
We really enjoyed meeting with Robin & Tara - not doing a great deal but catching up in the sunshine. After they had left to make sure they were back on the ship before it left for Muscat, we swam in th warm and very clear waters of the Persian Gulf.
There had been great discussion about the UAE and we were not as sure as we thought we were about the emirates involved so of course we looked in up on Wikipedia. Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Ajman, Fujairah, Ras-al-Khaimah, Sharjah and Ummal Quwain are the 7 semi independent states which comprise the United Arab Emirate (UAE) under a single supreme council of rulers. So if it goes quiet in the snug you can impress all by your knowledge of the UAE.
Time for dinner at the beach side restaurant which was busy with almost all sitting outside. A walk along the sandy beach and then time for a rest.

The One and Only Mirage Palace is a lovely hotel and amongst the towering skyscrapers of Dubai is unusual in being only 5 stories and spreading across numerous building and parkland right on the beach.
We were greeted at reception with the striking of a very large gong J Arthur Rank eat your heart out!
