Saturday 17th Watsons Bay

A fairly late start as the jet lag is just about disappearing; that is our excuse anyway! Off to Watsons Bay this morning on the ferry across Port Jackson. As we arrived at Circular Quay we discovered that all ticket offices were closed and since we were last here all public transport works only with Opal card (very similar to Oyster in London). However, a very helpful ferry attendant soon informed us how to acquire said Opal card and we caught the ferry with a minute of so to spare.

We have been here on a couple of occasions before and it is very lovely. This time we walked further along the harbour away from the ferry terminal and found a very nice beach at Gibsons beach reserve where we enjoyed the sunshine and Ray had a swim. By now it was 30c+ and we needed as much shade as possible. On previous travels down under we have remarked upon the intensity of the sun here and today this is very apparent.

Time to head back to Sydney and the harbour was as busy as we have ever seen it with sailing boats of all shapes and sizes, from Optimist dinghies to Americas Cup type racing yachts.

This evening we are having dinner with Anthony & Louise in their apartment on the north side of the harbour so we headed for David Jones, Sydney's version of Selfridges to purchase some wine and to replace the LLWs mouse which had crawled off somewhere in Dubai. The wine was no problem but David Jones has stopped selling electrical goods so we were directed to the Westfield Centre where a household goods shop, JB HiFi, had an extensive collection of mice! By now we were both tired after walking some distance in the heat and a rest at our hotel was in order.

There are taxis galore outside our hotel so it was no problem finding one and tout suite we were on our way across Sydney Harbour Bridge to the north side and quickly arrived at Anthony & Louise' home. The views are spectacular and we saw it at its best just before sunset. A lovely evening and a delicious meal including lobster, a real treat, accompanied by excellent wines.
