Wednesday 2nd September Salzburg

Since the forecast was gloomy for the day we decided to head of for Salzburg and do some sightseeing. As it turned out the day was grey but not too rainy so we were able to wander around without any problems. First port of call was the Lost and Found office at Salzburg Hauptbahnhof to see if there was any news. No luck but the attendant was very helpful and gave us details of his colleagues in Zurich which was the final destination of our train. We will email later.

Salzburg was as lovely as ever and very popular with tourists so quite crowded

We wandered around the old town and had a very pleasant lunch at the famous Sterngarten where we had eaten the first time we visited Salzburg together; longer ago than we care to remember! It has recently been renovated but still retains the lovely outdoor area shaded by large trees.

We had left out hire car in the Hauptbahnhof  car park so we caught a bendy bus back there and drove back to Furberg via Fuschl which is a pretty small town on a lake of the same name.

Back at base we had an excellent dinner accompanied by an terrific Austrian Merlot from the Neusiedler See area which is close to the Hungarian border.
