Monday 7th Our last full day at Furberg

Still cold and mainly grey but a least it was not raining! We were up early and first down for breakfast which meal deserves a mention. Breakfast at the Gasthof and Hotel Furberg is excellent and everything looks so appetising. The breads in Austria are fantastic and those at the Furberg breakfast are no exception; there seems an endless variety of them. Muesli, Fruits, eggs, ham, cheese its all there and each is of excellent quality. Service is great and no hint of obsequiousness which we both hate.

We were in no hurry to head off for our final  bike ride in Austria since it really was quite chilly, and as my father used to say, I thought it wise to wait until the "streets were aired"

The dreaded 2 hills out of Furberg were tackled once again, sadly with no less muttering and grumbling from the LLW. However, once at the summit it is all fairly easy cycling and we were soon in Sankt Gilgen where we needed to call at the ATM since last night's restaurant was, rather surprisingly, cash only.

No further stop until near Gschwendt where we had a cappuccino followed closely by a second as it was deemed still rather chilly. In fact stopping so long was a mistake since it took some time to warm up again.

Speeding straight through Strobl, we headed north along the eastern side of the lake to Ried-Falkenstein where our second favourite hotel on the Wolfgangsee enjoys a beautiful lakeside location. Sadly not a day for sitting outside but we enjoyed their excellent soft cheese (all from the Abersee area) salad for me, and Carpaccio for the LLW. After a quick consultation of the ferry timetable and our watches, the LLW decreed that there was just about enough time for a shared Topfenpalatschinken!

The ferry arrived and for the final time we boarded for the short trip back to Furberg.
