Tuesday 1st September the last hot summer day?

We woke up bright and early planning to use the last day of high summer (or so the forecast said) to cycle round the WolfgangSee.

We started with a great breakfast at the Gasthof and Hotel Furberg.    The breakfast area is large and there is hardly anything which you could want which is not available.  There is even a juicer for those health addicts who want their fresh carrot, beetroot and ginger kick as a juice in the morning.  The LLW  had  a tasty bowl of Bircher muesli with stewed blackcurrants and fresh strawberries.    Ray had some of their excellent bread with hams and cheeses and also honey.
We headed for the bike shed to find that locks were in short supply and the pump had broken.  We understood that many guests had used the bikes and they were showing their age but we managed to find two which were suitable so off we went with our bikes and our helmets for our tour around the lake. It was a glorious day, as promised.    The first 10 minutes of the ride involves two very steep hills and the LLW struggled and gave up and walked but from then on she was in good form

We checked out various parts of the lake surrounding s which we had not ridden around previously and stopped at a campsite cafe for a cappuccino but declined any food because it was covered with wasps!  We found a new track called the Seeweg, which is the "lower" road all along the lake into Strohbl which is also something of a nature reserve and at Strohbl we stopped at a shop to replace some sunglasses lost with the rucksacks and to have an ice cream.

Then on to St Wolfgang, Ray trying to ensure he mowed down as many saga louts as he could.  A mile or so outside St Wolfgang was our destination - a hotel restaurant at Falkenstein.   We stopped for a lovely salad lunch ( effectively starters) and followed it with a Topfenpalateschinken - a fabulous dish of pancakes stuffed with curd cheese and raisins and raspberries baked in the oven.    It is sure to feature on the repertoire of the LLW so you too may soon have the pleasure.

We then caught the ferry back to Furberg and had a refreshing swim in the lake before visiting Billa supermarket for a few provisions as we had planned not to eat in the hotel that night, it being a "rest day" in any event.
As we sit outside on our balcony, we can tell there is a storm brewing.
