After the exertions of yesterday the management committee unanimously agreed on a quiet day particularly since the LLW will need to stay up late as we are going to the cinema to see La La Land.
As forecast it is a dull and cloudy day with a cool wind. The big excitement at present in Wanaka is the wedding of Richie McCaw (former All Black captain) and Gemma Flynn (Olympian and hockey player) which is heavily rumoured to be taking place at The Olive Grove in Wanaka. We drove past this venue and sure enough cameramen and journalists were giving a good impression of a rugby scrum at the entrance.
We stopped off at another wedding venue that of Rippon Vineyard, where David and Jess were married in February 2015. As you can see the views from Rippon down to the lake are spectacular even in duller weather and the beautiful lavender (and of course the LLW) added even more interest.
A very nice lunch at a one of the many coffee shops in Wanaka (which also sold a very good glass of Rippon Sauvignon Blanc to go with Ray's Seafood Chowder). The LLW stuck with the flat white and two very large slices of banana cake. Not sure how the calorie contest would pan out.
The weather has brightened and warmed as the day has progressed but there are noticeably fewer people out and about today. Time for a light supper before we go to the Paradiso Cinema.
