Wednesday 19th December

Very sadly today is our last day in Perth and we leave at 15:00 for a 17:20 flight to Adelaide. We have come to really like the city with its wonderful weather, stunning surroundings and laid back attitude. Everyone we have encountered has been friendly and very helpful.

Before we leave, Ray has planned a cycle ride along both sides of the Swan river. Just outside our hotel is a rack of Spinway bikes that can be hired for various periods, only dependant upon how much your debit/credit card can bear.

We selected 4 hours each and the plastic did not groan too much. Off we went firstly heading east for a few hundred yards and then crossing a bridge to Heirisson Island and on to the southern side  of the Swan river. It was a glorious day, without a cloud in sight and the views across the river to central Perth were stunning.

South Perth has a lot of very upmarket houses which face onto parkland and then across the river. The LLW showed much interest in the gardens and planting, which of course, is to be expected of the Chair of SAGE.

It was a glorious ride and we stopped at Elizabeth Quay for lunch and were amazed to see a sightseeing tour on camels.

The restaurant also backed on to the Bell Tower which apparently houses original bells from St Martin in the Fields in Trafalgar Square.

It was a brilliant way to finish our stay in Perth and we returned to the hotel, showered and read for a while whilst we waited for our driver. The LLW did find time to commandeer mince pies and tea.

Our driver was a very cheery and chatty lady who was originally from NZ but has been in Perth for some time and clearly loved the city.

We were soon on our Virgin Australia plane to Adelaide and arrived at 23:00 since there is a time difference of 2 1/2 hours between Perth and Adelaide. Too late to explore the cites that will need to wait until the morning.
