The day has arrived for the visit down under and we were awake early listening to Tony Blackburn and his Sounds of the Sixties! He is just as corny as he was in the 60s but he does play some of our favourite music.
All of the last minute chores were accomplished and various items stuffed into already overflowing suitcases. As you know, dear reader, we do try to travel light but this time Ray's case was the heaviest it has ever been, mainly due to various cycling accessories that he insisted were indispensable.
After much confusion about the Emirates Chauffeur drive booking, our driver arrived early having carefully followed the instructions to find Skinners Cottage. So off we went to Gatwick about 30 mins earlier than expected. Our driver was a delightful chap from Crawley, of Indian origin, and much of the conversation was about cricket. The LLW surprised him with her knowledge of the doosra and the state of the Australia vs India test match currently taking place in Perth.
Towards the end of the journey the conversation almost inevitably turned to Brexit and our driver transpired to be a strong Brexiteer but was very unhappy with the current situation. His reasons for supporting Brexit were mainly about sovereignty which slightly surprised us.
Very light traffic was experienced on the drive and within 40 mins we were at Gatwick North and sped through check in and security.
We are now sitting in a very quiet Emirates lounge with coffee and danish pastries having been procured. Two hours to take off!
