Saturday 7th January. Last day in Queenstown and arriving in Oamaru

Friday 6th was a busy day and Ray cycled into Queenstown from our excellent camp site a Frankton. When he returned the LLW insisted on watching Tayne and Doug's flight arrive from outside our Motor Home. The camp site is very close to the flight path but a) there are not that many flights and b) they strictly comply with time restrictions so whilst we hear the planes they are not a nuisance. The plan was to meet Tayne and Doug at the Bath House and to travel there by the ferry. However, yesterday's ferry was extremely busy and Ray thought it wise to ask the lady at our reception for the telephone numbers of a taxi company, just in case.

We walked down to the jetty which is very close to the famous and aforementioned Boat Shed cafe. As we arrived the ferry was on its way to the Hilton on the other side of the lake and we thought it seemed to be there a while and lo and behold when it arrived at Frankton Marina it was full so the emergency taxi numbers became crucial. The tax arrived within 10 minutes, we arrived at the Bath House ahead of the meeting time and, most importantly, Ray acquired a few brownie points!

We enjoyed a very pleasant lunch with Tayne and Doug and were able to share a few recommendations for activities in Queenstown. After lunch we walked around the botanic garden which is situated on a peninsular which offers fabulous views across 3 sections of Lake Whakatipu.

The LLW has not been impressed by Queenstown's public transport system so a taxi back to Frankton was in order. We had a fairly quick turnaround before heading to Countdown at 5 mile centre for some goodies to take to the Dixon household.

The Dixon's had returned to David & Jess's house in Arrowtown which has recently been extensively refurbished and extended into a very impressive residence.

NZ crayfish (lobsters) were the star of the show helped by some lovely Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc. Ollie seemed intent upon totally exhausting Ray and he achieved his aim. Hilton and Anne were very sad because this is their last day in NZ and their flight leaves Queenstown early afternoon. They have had a great time but of course this is the first occasion they have been able to visit their NZ family for over 3 years.

Back to the camp site for our last night in Queenstown.

Saturday morning was dull with some light rain and we awoke early for our drive to Oamaru via lunch at the famous and LLW favoured Riverstone Kitchen. We arrived spot on for our lunch reservation after a brief coffee stop at the Wrinkly Rams. We never like leaving Central Otago but the promise of a meal at Riverstone is about the best reason for doing so.
