A 4am start from Rackham and we were up and out very quickly into a beautiful but misty morning. As you may imagine there were very few on the road at this unearthly hour on a Sunday morning until we joined the M23. As we approached Gatwick it became apparent that the mist was not lifting quickly and we feared a delay. This is our first flight with Norwegian and the check in bag drop was very smooth and we were soon through security and enjoying a cappuccino each. The plane boarded onetime but we were kept waiting on the stand for some time as all flights were delayed. Take off was just under an hour late but impressively most of the time give or take 20 mins was made up on the way to Stockholm and we were soon in our hire car and on the way to Lyrestad. There was a slight malfunction of the WWN who attempted to start our navigation from Stockholm Bromma airport rather than Arlanda but luckily this minor error was spotted quickly, we found the right route, and marital harmony was restored!
The journey was just short of 3 hours but very easy with little traffic and good roads. The countryside is pastoral, very green, quite flat and with lots of lakes. We found our Pension, Asgarden, very quickly and were cordially greeted by our hosts Eivor and Bjorn. After a short rest we walked down by the canal and sat in 23C sunshine for a while before dinner which featured Swedish meatballs, Lingonberry sauce and a desert of ice cream and Cloudberry jam - all very good and typically Swedish. What was not typically Swedish was the excellent bottle of Lindemans Bin 45 Cabernet Sauvignon which was surprisingly affordable! Oh and on a horticultural note, the LLW was hugely impressed by the fragrant Swedish Lilac.
A good start to the holiday and we were impressed by the quality and service from Norwegian (the LLW is already planning more trips with them) and even given the early start, we had a smooth trip out to Sweden.
An early night and then its cycling along the Gota Canal tomorrow.
